Book: Human Flourishing: The End of Law
Chapter Description:
Professor Siegfried Wiessner has inspired countless students and academics
throughout the world. He shines his lamp for the benefit of advancing knowl-
edge, participating in community, and providing active caring for others.
I treasure his advice and friendship as do so many others. Under his guid-
ance, students from the Intercultural Human Rights Program have gone on
to become world-class leaders. We remember these students collectively: a
flag from each nation of origin flies in the St. Thomas law school atrium. Each
flag also stands as tribute to the far-reaching influence of Professor Wiessner,
as each student fosters his mission to advance human flourishing as the end
of law.
This essay explores human flourishing in the context of childhood trans-
gender identity and body alteration to mimic another sex. To honor Professor
Wiessner, this essay will trace important elements of the New Haven method.
